Smoke In The Valley

Cherry wood-smoked Amber Ale Our latest brewing collaboration/adventure with our friends at Valley Malt! Andrea and Christian Stanley founded their micro-maltings in Hadley, Massachusetts and we’ve been staunch supporters of them as they refine the art of small batch malting. [wpex more="Read more" less="Read less"] This time around we get to play with a variety of Valley Malt’s specialty malts, including an Amber Malt with great toast character, a Chocolate Rye Malt which adds rich baker’s chocolate notes to the spiciness of the rye grain, and 2row malted barley hand-smoked by Andrea over cherry wood from their own orchard. Cherry wood smoke offers a twist on smoke flavors common to the American palate. A subtle fruitiness accompanies smoky aromas and flavors, which lead to hints of caramel, spicy grains, and a note of cocoa in the finish. Hops play only a supporting role but lend balance to the beer’s finish. A great accompaniment, we think, to smoky BBQ and anything grilled or braised. Cheers! Teardrop 6 Pitcher 23 Tower 37[/wpex]
